What is the Difference Between URL & URI Webpage

URL and URI are most best different in their terms. Understanding its capabilities are important as a web master. In this blog we are going to discuss the same.URL is meant to be used to transport Uniform Resource Identifiers. However, in some cases, it can be used to transform Uniform Resource Identifiers into URLs. However, this is not a common use of URL in the current scenario. In most web pages today, the words “URL” are often used as synonyms with the word “web page”. Here we are using “URL” to refer to either a Uniform Resource Name or URI.

What is the Difference Between URL and URI?

A URI is a Uniform Resource Identifier while a URL (Uniform Resource Locator) specifies the location of files on the internet. The idea behind a most best Uniform Resource Locator is that it can be used to access any resource from anywhere on the internet at any time. For example, you can use the same URI for accessing a particular Webpage, but not the corresponding URL. For example, if you have the following URI, it is easy to show how the form can be displayed in different places through out the Internet:
http://www.example-awards.com/award/rjk9/winners2008.html

Webpage at Different Locations:-

So, the URI can be used to access the same Webpage at different locations on the Internet without any change to it. It is up to you as an author of the content (i.e., a webmaster) to choose what location or location you want your Webpage to be hosted from (i.e., which server).
On the other hand, URLs always indicate how a particular web page is reachable from anywhere in internet since they are host names that can be resolved by IP address.
For example, if you have the following URL
http://www.example-awards.com/award/rjk9/winners2008.html, the same web page can be
reached by different URLs, as follows:
http://www.example-awards.com/award/rjk9/winners2008.html
http://www.example-awards.com:8080/award/rjk9/winners2008. html
For example, the Webpage in the above URI can be accessed by typing the following URL into
your browsers’ address bar:
http://www.example-awards.com/award/rjk9/winners2008.html
The only difference between these URIs and URLs are the domain name and port number (i.e.,
www.example-awards.com and 8080).

The Differences in Detail:-

As suggested above, a URI is a Uniform Resource Identifier while a URL is the location of files on the internet. When you want to pass or transmit Uniform Resource Identifiers from point A to point B, it is always done using Uniform Resource Locators or URLs. For example, if you want to send someone an email containing an image in it, as you do that, you will use URLs for embedding your images into HTML content or the body of your email messages. Furthermore, you can use the same URI for accessing multiple files, but not the corresponding URL. For example, the same Webpage can be accessed by different people from different locations on the Internet using the following URLs:  http://www.example-awards.com/award/rjk9/winners2008.html However, there is a limitation to using Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs) for passing or transmitting any data from one point to another. You can use the same URI for accessing
images or documents, but not the corresponding URL. And, if you are a webmaster or content provider who wants to transfer some files from one location to another (e.g., server), then URLs are required for that purpose.

Understanding the difference between URL and URI:-

URL is the way you get to a particular link on a web page. In simple words, it is the address given to the internet browser that initiates a link to a particular web page. Let’s take an example, if I want to add a ‘comments’ button on the page then I need to enter the URL. In case of a rich media like HTML or a video, I will type “video.html”, “javascript.html” and so on. Thus, each of them will make a link. So what we need to remember is that, in case of a video, the browser will open the video page in HTML. Similarly, if I want to edit a line in a text document, the URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) will make the same. The new RFC and different types of URIs The
